Play Good Poker: Tips for Beginners and Seasoned Players

Poker has rules and trends like all games do. You have to be able to read the signs and decide how they can work for you. No-one can predict the outcome of a game with complete success, but if you play it well, you may well be the winner. Poker is a game of skill as much as it is a game of chance. SO, the key is to keep honing your skills and improving your game. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned player, here are some tips that you must always remember.

Know the Rules and Other Aspects

Poker involves several different aspects. Aside from the basic rules, you should also understand the influence of your position at the table, the purpose of the blinds, table etiquette, and so on. You should be prepared for a game with more than just a basic understanding. If you are truly serious about your poker game, you will learn all there is to know about poker.

Practice a Lot

The pros will definitely back us on this one. Without practice, you will never learn what works and what doesn’t. You can practice online for free or you can practice with low-stakes games. Either way, it is important that you try new things and practice your maths skills and prediction of your opponent’s cards. It will also help you learn to read people better. Knowing what people are trying to hide is very important in poker.

Don’t Bluff Too Often

It’s sort of a case of when the boy cried wolf. If you bluff too often, other players won’t take you seriously. You will seem like a poor poker player who has to rely on bluffing to get anywhere in the game. Rather leave the bluffs for when you are sure your opponent is ready to fold if his tells are telling you his cards aren’t that great. Use the bluff as a secret weapon and not as a general tool.

Stay Focused

Focus is key if you wish to win a game and walk away with the money. You need to pay attention to what is happening on the table at all times. Know what your opponents are doing. Calculate all possible outcomes for the hand you have. Observe your opponents and their body language. If you do these things you are in a much better position to play a great game.

These are things that most poker players know when they have been playing for a while. However, we tend to forget things when we move up the chain. It is always good to come back to the basic and see where you can improve. A solid advanced strategy is built on a good basic foundation.

5 Helpful Tips for Bankrolling Your Poker Hobby - 5 Helpful Tips for Bankrolling Your Poker Hobby

5 Helpful Tips for Bankrolling Your Poker Hobby

Bankrolling your poker game means that you set aside money for that specific purpose. When you bankroll a business it means that you are putting the money to start a business and cover the capital. So, it is basically the same with poker. You bankroll the game because you don’t want to use other moneys that have been set aside for other uses. It may take some time to build enough to actually cover a buy-in, so if you’re serious about your poker, follow our tips.

Decide how much you need. Before you can start bankrolling or building your poker fund, you need to have an idea of how much you are aiming for. You can do research on what a buy-in would be at the tournament or casinos that you want to play. Use those numbers a start but add on to it. You don’t want a bare minimum when it comes to bankrolling.

Set up a separate account for your poker. You don’t want to use your household or everyday funds to play poker. You should set aside the money to pay your bills and take care of other responsibilities. It should be completely separate from your poker fund and should not even be mentioned. Those funds should be off limits at all times.

Budget for your poker money. If you are serious about starting a poker hobby or maybe even making it more as you get better, you can handle it like you would any savings project. If you want a new car, you save up and budget for it. So, make poker a part of your budget. Decide how much you need to put away every month to get to where you want to be. Again, remember that your responsibilities must take priority. If your poker fund is part of your budget and like a savings plan, you should have no trouble getting the money together without compromising you and your family’s finances.

Avoid taking out loans. Unless it is an emergency for some reason, don’t take out a loan to cover your poker expenses. You may think that you will win it all and more back, but there is no guarantee that will happen. So, think very carefully about any decisions that will place you further in debt without a way to pay it back. You should definitely stay away from loan sharks or be prepared to lose a limb or two.

Play responsibly and smartly. Playing responsible has to do with more than just not recklessly spending your money. You need to be smart about your betting decisions and how you play the game. You need to know when to fold and when you can push it for the win.

The bottom line is that you need to be responsible with your money and have a poker fund that is strictly meant for playing poker. Any other moneys you have should be kept away from the poker game. Read about some mistakes you should avoid with bankrolling here. Also, have a look at how to play poker when you’re broke. This is a good option while you’re saving up for the big time.

How to Play Poker When You’re Broke - How to Play Poker When You’re Broke

How to Play Poker When You’re Broke

You don’t need money to play poker. If you and your friends have a standard poker night every month, there are ways that you can work around the money issue. There will always be a friend or two who cannot afford to join the game because they simply don’t have the money to make even the smallest of buy-ins. Obviously, this makes both the guys who can and the guys who can’t feel bad. If you experience this then we have some good news for you. There are ways around this.

Don’t play for money. The first option is to not play for money. Yes, it takes away one of the best parts of a poker game, but if it’s between friends, it shouldn’t matter that much. If not playing for money is a problem, you may need new friends. So, basically, you can use almost anything else to play with. Use poker chips but without the actual money behind it. Use beans or monopoly money or anything else that you can assign a value to and play with. Who knows, you may actually enjoy it.

Everyone gets their money back. This may be a little bit harder to swing, but if you and your friends are fairly level-minded and won’t be out to get each other, it may work. How it works is that you play with real money, but at the end of the night everyone gets their money back. So, someone will still win, but they will give back all their winnings so everyone walks away with the money they put in. Like we said, it could get tricky if someone is hell-bent on taking the money, but if you decide to try this everyone should be on the same page.

Have different games and different buy-ins. You can play different types of poker and have a different buy-in for each. This means that you can make a buy-in a few cents. So, the people who cannot spend as much as the others can play against each other in one game and the other can play against each other in a higher stakes game. This way, everyone gets to play what they can afford and no-one has to be sour-faced about not taking home the money they won.

Play for practice. Poker is a game of skill. To be able to win the money at the end of a game more often, you need to practice. You need to try out new strategies and see what happens when you take certain risks. What better place to this than between friends? So, instead of making poker night about money, make it about the skills and the company. You can help each other improve and become better poker players. When everyone is able to make a buy-in, go to a casino and show off the skills you have been honing. The wins will be so much more rewarding.

So, you see, poker can be played without money being the main focus. It may be a bit strange, but in the economic situation the world is in, people are struggling. These are ways in which you can keep enjoying poker night with all your friends without them feeling like they should rather stop joining the game.

Poker has main elements like any other game. There are rules, equipment, and players. If you are brand new to poker and you want to just get a basic idea of what it’s about, this post is especially for you. Poker isn’t all that complicated, but it does take skill and discipline to become a good player. To be able to do anything well, you must first understand the basic elements and what it is about.

The Cards

The Cards - Main Elements of Poker: Basics You Should Know
In poker, the goal is to have the best five cards in your hand at the end of the game. Every player has a combination of cards that are made up of two cards in their hand and five cards on the table. The player who has the best five-card combination wins the prize. So, the game is all about the cards.

The Equipment

The Equipment - Main Elements of Poker: Basics You Should Know
When you play poker at a casino or at home, you will need some basic equipment. You will need a table that seats enough people for your game. You will need at least two decks of cards two sets of poker chips. You can buy poker sets from your local toy or games shop. You may also want to have pen and paper to keep track of winnings and standings.

If you play online poker, you will only need your computer.

The Players

The Players - Main Elements of Poker: Basics You Should Know
A full poker game sits ten players. You can play with fewer players if you don’t want to or don’t have ten people. The players that are present will each have a position at the table and may have to be the big blind, small blind, and dealer. The blinds are players who have to put a certain amount of money in the pot before they even know what their cards are. The dealer deals the cards and opens the community cards.

The Money

The Money - Main Elements of Poker: Basics You Should Know
Poker is also a betting game. You place bets on whether yours will be the best hand at the end. A poker game consists of several rounds in which players must choose to bet more money, bet the same as the previous person, or fold. To fold means that you are out of the round because your cards will not make you win. There is no real money on a poker table. The money that you play is represented by your poker chips.

Obviously, things are a little more complicated than this, but in essence, this is what poker is about. You play the cards, you bet the money or you fold, and you hope that you have the best hand. Read more on the rules of poker here.
